HOW I APPROACH WOUND CARE

A wound is rarely just about the wound itself. Circulation, pressure, diabetes, mobility, nutrition, underlying disease and the circumstances surrounding the person can all influence healing.

My role is to bring those pieces together, identify what may be affecting progress and develop a plan of care that is appropriate and realistic for the individual. Where healing may be limited by underlying disease or other factors, the focus of care may also include comfort, symptom management and protecting the surrounding skin.

Where another clinical opinion or intervention is needed, I work alongside the patient’s doctor, surgeon or wider healthcare team.

WHAT PATIENTS SAY
“About five years ago, our mother, then aged 90, suffered from a sustaining bed sore. Although she was having it treated, she began to develop new leg lesions, a devastating development with unthinkable consequences. It was at this time that we met Sister Ursula Woods, who administered her expertise in wound care with dedication and professionalism, which has saved my mother's leg. She has turned out to be not only a "wound care expert" but a true "modern day Florence Nightingale." Nothing is too much — she is always available to visit our mother at home, for care, whenever this is necessary. We are truly indebted to Sister Woods for the care and healing she has provided.”

“After falling and getting a bad infection in a number of places on my shin, I ended up in hospital. Sister Woods was the reason I recovered so quickly. Her skills and attitude were incredible, and she truly made all the difference in my healing process — ointments, bandages, plasters, red lights and all.”
CHARLES CHEMEL
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Sr Ursula Woods for the exceptional care, compassion, and support she has given me throughout my wound and stoma care journey. From the very beginning, Sr Woods has been more than just an exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled specialist nurse. Her kindness, patience, and genuine concern for my wellbeing have made an enormous difference during what has often been a challenging and vulnerable time. She has an incredible ability to combine her professional expertise with warmth and compassion. She takes the time to listen, explains everything clearly, answers questions with patience, and always makes sure that I feel comfortable, reassured, and supported. What stands out most about Sr Woods is that she consistently goes above and beyond. Her care extends far beyond simply treating wounds or managing a stoma — she cares for the whole person. She treats her patients with dignity, respect, understanding, and genuine kindness. Knowing that I was in such capable and caring hands gave me confidence and peace of mind throughout my recovery. I am deeply grateful for her dedication and for the positive difference she has made in my life. Sr Ursula Woods is an outstanding nurse and a true credit to her profession. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Thank you, Sr Woods, for your exceptional care, your kindness, your expertise, and for always going the extra mile. Your dedication has meant more to me than words can fully express.”

MR NKOSI
“Ursula looked after my dad's various wounds for years. He was a difficult and demanding patient, and she always handled him with humour and grace. Ursula was always kind to my dad, and has a wonderful, easy way of putting patients at their ease and making them comfortable. She was always thinking of and trying new ways of dealing with various wounds, and constantly did research and assessed options. My dad was under the best wound care he had ever received.”
