Wounds can look similar but have very different underlying causes. A thorough assessment helps identify what may be affecting healing and guides the most appropriate plan of care. Below are some of the wound types commonly seen in my practice.

Arterial ulcers

Painful wounds on the feet, toes or lower legs that may be linked to reduced blood flow.

Common sites Toes, heel and bony areas of the foot

Wound beds may be pale or covered with dry black tissue (eschar).

Venous leg ulcers

Swollen, weeping or discoloured legs, or wounds around the lower leg and ankle.

A sore, blister or wound on the foot of someone living with diabetes — even if it is not painful.

Surgical & post-operative wounds

Wounds following surgery, including wounds that are slow to heal, have reopened or developed complications.

Pressure injuries

Skin or tissue damage caused by ongoing pressure, often over a bony area.

A burn caused by hot liquid or steam.
